“Okay, Medusa. Are you a fast flyer?” I ask, my voice hinting the amount of anxiety I had built up inside.

As a reply, she growls at me as if I had insulted her ancestors.

I slowly take a step back, trying to keep my distance from her in case she decided to bite my face off. “Well, if you’re so fast, let me see how you really can go.”

She nods, accepting my challenge. With that, she spreads out her long, scaly midnight colored wings. As far as length goes, both of her wings together were nearly three times her size. When I’m next to the twenty-five foot dragon, I’m practically a mouse; she could easily overpower me without hesitation. Once she was able to adjust, Medusa immediately soars into the air. Luckily, the arena was large enough to accommodate a dragon’s need to fly.

She flew around the air numerous times and in such an amazing speed that from my perspective it was almost impossible for me to keep up. All I was able to see was a big, black blob hovering in the sky. I suppose I should never test the speed of a Nightfury.

Before I could even focus my eyes on the being, Medusa swiftly, but gracefully, lands on the stone floor. Even from the intense flying, the Nightfury didn’t even break a single sweat on her venture. While I, on the other hand, tried to steady myself; trying to spot a Nightfury in mid-air wasn’t an easy task. I got dizzy after three seconds from trying to spot her as she took a few laps around the arena. But, I bet she meant to go in circles just to make me sick.

“Well, you are certainly, Medusa. I’ll give you that. Much faster than Toothless is.” I was finally able to regain my balance then turn to look her in the eyes. “Then, I suppose I should learn how to rise you.”

She growls, showing me her sharp teeth. She wasn’t to kid around; she was ready to maul me.

“Look, I get it that you don’t like me, but what else are me suppose to do. Pitch is expecting us to work together, and as much as we both hate it, we have to learn to suck it up and train together.”

She sighs and a puff of smoke escapes her nostrils; then, she relaxes her tense muscles. At least, she was toning it down a bit.

I take this opportunity to walk up to the ferocious dragon. Then once I near her, I saddle myself on top of her bare back. I try to get myself in a good position since there was a lack of a proper saddle on my tush.

“Okay, now why don’t we take this nice and sl- Ahhh!!!” I scream just as Medusa flies off into the air, unexpectedly. I grasp onto the Nightfury’s neck for dear life, fearing that I may fall onto the stone ground. As the dragon zips through the air, she continues to do sharp turns and daring flips while I strap onto her. Just when I thought I was in the clear, she makes an unsuspecting twirl, and I lose my handle on her. Once my hands completely slip from the dragon, I plunge towards the cold, stone floor. I scream in response, and since I was caught off guard, I could not bring myself to use my powers when I needed them most. Just before I was about to crash onto the ground, I land right onto Medusa’s back once more.

I let out another scream try to relieve my stress. “Medusa, enough!! I get it! You don’t want me to ride you; just land already!!” I shout into the dragon’s ear.

Obeying my command, Medusa abruptly comes to a rough landing, causing me to jerk forward and land on my bum against the stone floor, which did not feel comfortable. Medusa merely laughs by doing a rhythmic grunt.

On any other day, I would’ve lied on the floor and writhe in pain, but I was too fueled with anger to even think about it. My face burn bright red, in embarrassment, and I turn to face to dragon.

“What is your problem?!” I shout, causing the dragon to stop her fun and look at me blank-face. “I understand that you practically hate me, but I’m trying my best to with a complete buffoon like you because that’s what Pitch requested I do! I’ve been patient with you; I’ve dealt with all of your tricks, but all you want to do is kill me and you could’ve gotten hurt with my powers. You are impossible to work with! I don’t even know how Pitch can deal with a nuisance like you!”

Once finishing my rant, Medusa did nothing but look at me in the eye. Instead of staring at me with daggers, she looks at me with her puppy-dog eyes. She wasn’t at all angry with me, but instead, she was hurt. Once I was able to spot the hint of emotion from her, she shakes her head and returns to her regular death glare. She roars at me then quickly rushes pass me and out of the room.

“Fine! Who needs you! I don’t even need a partner!” Then, I stomp out of the room.

Well, that was a complete disaster. I knew something like this was going to happen. Nothing was ever going to get done if I had to work with that incompatible dragon. I knew I was going to be doomed to fail from the very beginning. I’m just not an expert dragon tamer.

As I walk away from the training yard, too busy focused on my anger, I didn’t even realize my best friend coming at my direction.

“Hey, Luna. Are you already finished with training? It hasn’t even been that long,” she asks.

I ignore her statement and brush pass her. Just as I was about to make a get-away, I felt a hand touch my shoulder.

“Hey, what’s wrong? I know you don’t get that mad with me.”

I jerk myself forward, releasing myself from her grip, and continue my venture forward.

“Wait up, Luna!” She runs up behind me while I ignore her constant calls. She continues to persist until we end up back in my room, where I jump onto my bed and scream into the nearest pillow I could find. Once I was finished releasing me frustration out, I felt the bed shift with Elsa’s weight as she sits herself on my bed. I remove the pillow from my face only to stare into her bright, icy blue eyes.

“I’m guessing the training didn’t go so well.”

                “What do you think?”

                “Was it that rough?”

“Rough wouldn’t even begin to explain it.”

She sighs, “Wanna tell me about it?”

I groan but comply with her demand. I sit up from the spot and look at my best friend. “I tried. Okay, I really tried to work with her. I tried to be nice to her and tried to ride her, but in the end, she almost killed me.”

                “Don’t be so dramatic.”

“No! She really tried to kill me! I almost crashed on the stone floor when she purposely dropped me.” I let out another frustrated yell. “I don’t even know how Pitch can stand her!”

“Well, Pitch has known her longer, and I think he’s the only person Medusa truly trusts.”

                “How?”

She shrugs, “I don’t know. Have you tried to get to know her?”

I raise an eyebrow. “I haven’t had the pleasure to since she’s too busy trying to burn my face off. Plus, how am I suppose to understand the dragon language.”

“Maybe you should talk to Pitch. He can tell you more about Medusa and give you some pointers on how to train her.”

                “I can’t do that.”

                “And, why not?”

“I don’t want him to see that I can’t even train with anyone else besides you and him. I don’t want him to think that I’m the weak-link amongst the team.”

“I highly doubt he’ll ever think that.”

“But, I just don’t want to let him down.”

“Then, how else are you going to understand the dragon?”

I look down and think of any possible solution I can find. Then, it hit me. “I’ll have to know her past. I need to see why she is the way she is, and maybe figure out how Pitch trains her. And, I know where exactly to go?”

                “Where?”

“The only place where you can find memories;  Tooth’s Palace.”

“You’re going to Tooth’s Palace? The one place where Pitch wouldn’t want you to go.”

                “Yup.”

“You know how dangerous that could be.”

“Well, it’s the only place to find her memories. I need to understand Medusa more. There’s no way she’ll tell me anything, besides the fact that I won’t understand a word she’s saying.”

“Do dragon’s even lose their teeth?”

“Pretty sure. Anyways, I have to do it, Elsa.”

“Then, just be careful. We wouldn’t want you to caught by Pitch or… the Guardians.”

                “I always am.”
