Literature Text

An entire two weeks have passed since the entire incident of that night. Though it all, I’ve been keeping my distance from Sebastian. Apparently, he’s been doing the same; well, look at what a good butler he is now. Fortunately, it hasn’t gotten anyone’s attention.

Just as the sun rises from the horizon, I manage to wake up and hop out of bed. After doing my morning stretches I check the time. 5:30 a.m.; I woke up fairly early. While still in my pajamas, I make my way towards the kitchen, so I can get something to eat. My stomach has been practically eating my insides ever since I woke up. Though it may surprise others, I do know how to cook; Brad taught me at a young age. I push open the kitchen door and enter the room, and I immediately begin making some scrambled eggs for myself. As I make my breakfast, I pay very little attention to my surroundings until I jump at the sound of the door squeaking open. I turn and notice Brad walking into the kitchen, fully clothed in his every day attire.

“Oh, you’re up,” Brad says. He fixes his bed hair and walks towards the fridge to get some juice.

“Yea; I… couldn’t sleep so I figured that I make myself breakfast since I was already up.”

“Why didn’t you just let Sebastian make you something?”

I bite my lip and stay quiet; then I say, “Well I didn’t want to bother him with something I could already do myself. Plus, I think he’s asleep.”

“Alright then; if you need anything, I’ll be in my room.”

“Ok; thank you, Brad.” He exits the room, and I finish cooking my breakfast. I put the cooked eggs in a plate and grab a cup of orange juice, and I take my food to a table placed right next to a large window. I take my seat and start eating my breakfast.

As I eat, I quickly notice how quiet and peaceful the entire mansion. It’s never been like this. There is always some kind of ruckus going on in. I should wake up earlier more often. I sigh then look out the window to be met with a cloudy atmosphere.; it looks like it might rain. With that, I finish up my breakfast. I put the plate in the sink and head back to my room.

After entering my room, I turn on my TV, to provide some sound in this utter silence, and head to my closet. I change into a gray tank top, grey jean, black combat boots, and a blue hoodie in case it actually did start to rain. I comb my hair and apply some make up onto my pale face. When I finish, I lay in my bed and watch some TV to help pass the time.

By the time it was 7:30, I was already out the front door with my school bag already strapped on my back and cellphone in my front pocket. A cold gush of wind hits me in my face as I walk to school. This has been my normal routine ever since that night two weeks ago, since I started avoiding Sebastian.

I make it to school with time to spare. As I approach the front steps of the school, I can see the figures of both Bell and Edward. I grip the bag’s strap tighter. They’ve never been this early to class before. I was really hoping to avoid some confrontation  with them at this time; I didn’t want them to see me walking to school. I knew questions would stir. With that, they turn to face me and wave at my direction. I wave back and meet them at the steps.

“C.L.; did you walk today?” Bell asks.

“Uh, y-yes,” I reply. This is exactly what I was hoping to avoid.

    “Why?”

“Oh I just thought I do something different for a change.” Fortunately, they’ll gullible enough to believe me.

Edward looks up at the sky. “It looks like it might rain today.”

“I agree; we should head inside before we get drenched.” They comply and we head inside the building.

“Oh, I almost forgot,” Bell starts. “I have to go the library to do some research on a project for History, so I’ll see you two later.” She gives her brother a faint smile and runs off another direction.

“See you later, Bell,” I yell just before she is out of our eyesight. I turn to Edward, who was surprise very quiet all of a sudden. I notice a hint of red on his cheeks “Edward, you don’t look so well; why don’t we take a seat.”

“S-Sure,” his voice cracks. I take his hand and guide him to a near-by bench. The light coming from the window right behind us exaggerated the color from Edwards cheeks. I really hope that he isn’t coming down with a cold; I always hate when isn’t well. “Uh h-hey, C-C.L.?”

                “Yes?”

“S-so you k-know about the dance Friday?”

“Yes; we’ve talked about it before.” I raise an eyebrow. Wonder where he is going with this; I hope his sister didn’t have anything to do with this.

“W-well I was wondering if y-you would like accompany me to the dance. You know, as my date.”

My eyes widen, and I quickly feel my cheeks getting hotter by the minute. I couldn’t believe that somebody, especially Edward, would ask me to go to the dance with him. I always thought he would choose someone better than me. I was never somebody’s first choice. I was flattered. Plus, it’s the best excuse for me to avoid Sebastian. “Of course, I would love to go with you. I bet it’ll be fun.” I couldn’t contain my huge smile.

                “Really?!”

“Yes. I guess it would be fun to do something different. Plus, how could I ever turn someone as great as you down.”

“Awesome!!” He pulls me into a hug, which I gladly return. “Hey C.L. I got to go but I’ll see you at lunch.”

“Ok bye.” I wave to him as he runs off while I stay on the bench. I sigh. I couldn’t believe that I was actually going to the dance even after I specifically said I wouldn’t. I suppose Edward’s charm can affect me too. I chuckle to myself then look out the window beside me. As I look into the garden outside, I notice something out of the ordinary in the distance. In between the trees, I could see a hint of red and black. Then as my eyes focus, I see that there two human figures. But just as I saw them, they quickly disappear. I grip the fabric of my hoodie tighter as I let out a frustrated breathe. I stand up from the bench and stomp away from the spot. I didn’t need a genius to tell me who those two idiots were.

~Sebastian’s POV~

The time was already 7:25 a.m.. I already knew Catherine would be on her way to the academy. I had agreed twith myself that it would be best, for Catherine’s sake, to avoid her as much as she’s avoided me. But, I couldn’t take my mind out of the fact the Grell, of all people, decided to contact her. He doesn’t know that he could’ve put Catherine in more danger than she was before.

I have to go find Grell and confront him about his visit with Catherine. I need to know what his intentions were. With that, I dash out of the manor and begin my search for the reaper. After a few minutes, I found him near (what a surprise) Catherine’s school. I jump from a near-by branch and swiftly land close to him.  He must’ve heard the leaves brushing against each other as I moved because as I land he turns to face me.

“Oh Bassy, there you are. I had a feeling that you would come here,” he says in his innocent voice.

“Well, I thought I would have a talk with you.”

                “Oh, about what?”

“You know, about the little visit you decided to give to Catherine.”

“You two are on first name basis? I’m surprised; I guess you two ‘had’ a close relationship. And by the way, C.L. and I met by accident. It wasn’t planned at all.”

“What exactly did you tell her?”

“The truth Bassy; well, as a matter of fact, almost the whole truth. I simply told her that you were hiding something from her, and she also needs to watch her back.”

“What was the meaning of that?”

“Because it was the only way for her to be safe.”

                “What?”

He scoffs, “You’re not the only one who made a deal with Ciel to protect his precious little daughter. I’ve heard some stuff around, and C.L.’s safety is going to be compromised. Danger is coming and that’s why I told her to watch herself.”

“Are you saying that they’re coming back?”

“Yes; they’re coming soon and she needs to know everything now.”

“No; she doesn’t. She needs to kept out of the loop.”

“For her sake or yours Bassy. Do you actually have feelings for her? You know that’s not possible even for what she is?”

“I do not have feelings for her. Demons don’t feel love and I know it can’t be possible for what she is.”

“Well you’ll have to tell her sooner or later, and you better keep an eye on her. Stop ignoring her like you’ve been doing for the past two weeks. You’re lucky that Undertaker and I have been keeping an eye on her while you were slacking off. And if you’re the one that is suppose to be keeping an eye on her, that mean you’ll have to go to that dance with her.”

“How do you know about that?”

    “Little birdy told me.”

“Well, you’re wrong. C.L. said it herself; she doesn’t even want to attend.”

“Wow, you are losing your spunk, Bassy. I thought you knew everyone’s movements before they even knew it themselves.”

    “That hasn’t changed, Grell.”

“Well, you better take a look over there; cause little Romeo is going to ask C.L. to that ‘Ball’.” He points towards the building, and we both see the scene happening before us. That little weasel, also known as Edward Montgomery, seem to be doing the exact thing I was trying to avoid. With that, he brings Catherine into a tight hug. “Looks like you can’t stop everything. Even a demon can’t stop true love.”

I clench my fist. “What do you suppose I do? I can’t exactly escort Catherine if she already found a suitor. I’ve already tried my best to make sure she didn’t go, at least not with him..”

“Well Bassy. You are either going to have to break up that little couple or you can always go with me.” He gives an innocent smiles, baring his sharp teeths. Shivers go down my spine, and I give him a death glare. “Or not.”

“I’ll have to figure something out myself then.”

“Well, Bassy, you better think about that another time.”

    “Why?”

“It seems a curious soul is looking our direction. And, she doesn’t seem happy about it.” With that, he dashes away. I glance back at the building only to look straight towards Catherine. In lightning speed, I run towards the opposite direction, away from the school.
