------Warning: Some Blood and Violence are featured in this chapter-----------

Without a plausible reason, I was jolted out of my sleep. I push myself up from my bed, into a sitting position, and look around my room. I was hoping to find something that’ll lead me to the reason of my abrupt awakening. But, I was only met with my dark, not to mention empty, bedroom. I glance at my digital clock, trying to find the time, only to find the screen completely blank. I suspected the power might’ve been out, so I reach my hand out and pull the lamp switch. The lamp did not light up, proving my suspicion to be correct.

“Just great,” I mumble. The last thing I wanted was to be awake in the middle of the night with nothing to comfort me. A good episode of Doctor Who could’ve cheered me up.

I pull the drawer of nightstand open and retrieve the flashlight I had inside, switching it on soon after. After making sure the floor was clear, I stood from my bed and make it out of my room. After shutting the door, I look out into the dark, deserted hallway, similar to that of my room. But, something was way off. I would’ve figured someone might’ve been awake after noticing the lack of electricity. If anything, they would’ve put some battery-powered lamps in the hallway. But, everything was quite, too quite.

I turn to the right and spot the entrance to my study. I grip the knob and turn it, expecting it to click open, but it was stuck. I shake the knob a few more times but give up. The door was locked. I move over to another room and repeat the same routine only to wind up with the same results.

“What the hell is the meaning of this?”

I scan the area around me, looking for to break open the door, when I spot a single speck of light in the distance. Without hesitation, I jog towards it. Maybe there was someone awake after all. After reaching the end of the hallway, I come to find out that there was a single candle on the floor. I pick up the object, examining it closely, before placing on a near-by table. I take my hands off the object, but as I do so, my hand was stained with an sickly red color.

I gasp then look at the wall in front of me to find specks of the same crimson red splattered across the wall. The deadly spots of color trailed downward. With my eyes, I follow the trail, expecting to find the worst. With each passing second, the stain on the wall only grew. After a few tense seconds, I reach the end of the trail. And, I scream at the sight. There was no mistaking the familiar chocolate brown hair mixed in with the crimson red. May was lying, face-down, on the pool of her own blood.

“Mary!” I shriek. I rush to her aid. I kneel down beside her and shake her body, hoping to get any sign of life. But, she remained still. Then, I do the unthinkable. I needed to know what happened to Mary. With that in mind, I flip her body over, and my heart stops at the sight. Her eyes were wide open, staring into nothingness. Her glasses her cracked and a single stream of dry blood stained the side of her lip. On her chest,  a single blade was lodged in her body, right where her heart should be.

My lips quiver and tears poured down my face. “M-Mary, who did this to you?” I brush a few loose hairs away from her face.

Suddenly, the small flame from the candle was blown away. Everything was back to the bitter darkness. I gently place Mary’s body back on the ground, and with my hands, I search for my flashlight. Miraculously, I retrieve the object almost as quickly as the light was taken out. I flip the switch, and with my shaking hands, I move the light towards Mary’s body. But, the only thing I was met with was a pool of blood. There was no trace of her left behind.

I quickly jump from the scene. I had no idea where exactly I was running too but anywhere to get away from that would do. Glancing back at the spot, I manage to trip on an unknown object, breaking the only source of light I had. Then, pulling my head up from the floor, I try to look at my surroundings. I use my hands to spot the object I tripped on. Just as my eyes fully adjusted, I grasp onto the object I fell on.

I turn my head, only to be startle to my feet. My breath pacing faster and faster by the second. There in front of me were Brad and Finnick, positioned side by side. Their faces bearing no emotions, and right below it, their necks were slashed from ear to ear, blood still spilling from the wound. Just like Mary, their chests were punctured by a single blade.

I didn’t know how to react. There was a possibility that my face was as white as a paper. But, how exactly was I suppose to react to the mangled bodies of the people I hold dearest to me. With the fear growing inside of me, my only instinct was to run, so I did. I dashed out of the hallway like there was no tomorrow. I could’ve been next on whosever hit list.

Reaching the grand stairway, I run down the first short flight of stairs. Without looking where I was going, I slip and lose my footing. I manage to smash my head against the wood floor. My head pulsing after the sudden blow, I push myself off the ground, wobbling soon after while I try to regain my balance. Then, a warm substance drips onto my head, spilling down against my cheek. I was afraid to look up, but I knew I would have too. With my whole body trembling in fear, I look up at the ceiling. I find Tom’s deceased body hanging above me by a single rope.

I wanted to scream but only a simple squeak could escape my mouth. With the blood still dripping on my face, I didn’t even realize I was backing away from Tom until it was too late. I slip against the first step of the large stairway and come tumbling down the never-ending flight of steps. As soon as I hit the bottom, everything began to move until everything in my sights drifted away.

I didn’t know how long I was out, but as soon as my eyes open, I was blinded. Everything around me was ignited in flames. I push myself to my feet to see that the entire manor was on fire. I had no way out; the front entrance was blocked by a wall of flames. I had to think quickly if I wanted to get out alive. With that in mind, I run towards another direction. The only other closest direction for freedom was in the Media room. It was the only place I could think of with a way out. As I near the room, I could bring air into my lungs due to the smoke, and I was in a coughing fit all along the way. Not to mention, my asthma wasn’t making things any better.

After persisting through, I manage to make it to my destination. Without thinking, I grab hold of the doorknob, burning my hands in the process, and with my body, break open the door. Once finally inside, I was met with another horrifying sight. I saw a mix of blonde and black hidden inside of the flames followed by unison of agonizing screams. Those shades could only come from two people.

“Mom, Dad!!” I yell out, my voice croaked due to the lack of air in my lungs. I look towards their side and spot a hint of ginger in the red flames. “Aunt Rose!!”

“Catherine, run!!” they shout in unison.

                “But-“

“Save yourself, sweetheart,” my mother pleads.

So, I did as my mother instructed me to do so. I maneuver around the room, trying to dodge the flames but fail a few times. I dared not try to look back at my family; I knew if I did I wouldn’t want to leave. Finally, I reach the back of the room. With my hands numb due to the recent burn, I grab hold of the knob. I wiggle the doorknob but to no avail; then I use my body to push against the door.

Then, along with the other cries behind me, I hear another voice along with them. A voice I thought I would never hear in a million years. I twist my head around and my mouth practically falls to the floor one I spot Sebastian engulfed in flames. I never thought in my entire existence that I would see him in such pain.

“Catherine,” he screams, “Get out now!”

With one final push, I burst out of the room just as another flame was heading towards me. I dare not look behind me as the screams inside diminish. I couldn’t help stop the tears that poured down my face. Eventually, I had to stop for a breath of air unless I wanted to have an asthma attack. I bend down, grabbing a hold of my knees, and steady my breathing.

Once I had calmed down, I look back at the manor, my home. Everything was engulfed in flames. Everything was going away. Everyone I love dying in a place I use to call home.

“Help!! Somebody help me!! Please, is someone out there?!” I scream out, hoping someone could come to my aid.

“Oh, how I enjoy seeing my prey in such pain,” a voice echoes around me.

I turn a complete 360 degree, trying to look for another person. “W-Who’s there?”

“It must hurt doesn’t it?” With that, a dark fog surrounds me, trapping me in the dark abyss. With no other way out, I stare into nothingness just as an unknown figure manifests itself in front of me. “Seeing the people you tried so hard to protect die in front of you.”

                “Why are you doing this?!”

“Seeing Ciel’s only child in pain warms up my empty soul.”

                “P-Please just stop this.”

“Why? He made the mistake of trying to hide you from me.”

“Maybe, because he didn’t want anyone to kill me.”

                “But, why?”

“What d-do you mean why? He’s my father.”

“But, you’re such a beauty; your soul is one of a kind. Though I must warn you, if you don’t with me willingly, then I’ll make sure everything you saw happens to the people you love.”

                “No!”

“Oh, yes. I’ll even get rid of your precious Sebastian. I’ll do the same thing he did to me before I got my hands on you.”

“Stay away from me.” I try backing away from the figure, but it was no use. He was already reaching out to grab me.

*****

I jolt myself awake and scream at the top of my lungs, like bloody murder. That horrific nightmare couldn’t stop replaying itself in my head. I was so scared for my life. Was that nightmare going to be my future?

Then, while I continue my deafening cries, Sebastian bursts through the door and rushes to my aid. “Catherine!” he yells. He grabs hold of my arms, trying to restrain me, before bring me into a tight embrace. “Calm down, it was only a bad dream.”

That didn’t help at all. It couldn’t help stop the crying. Then, several other footsteps came rushing to the door.

                “What happened?” Brad asks.

I manage to let out a sigh of relief through all my tears. Everyone was okay. But, I startled them into consciousness with my screams. But, they continued to just stand there, not knowing what to do to help me. They just had to put their trust in Sebastian. Little did they know what actually made me scream in terror. Somebody was out to get me.
